The Armstrong Manual Training School/Adult Education Center on P Street between 1st and 3rd. Looks pretty much abandoned, but the past couple of days when I’ve walked by, there have been people who look like they’re working on/in the building. Any one happen to know what’s up? It’s a really cool old building!

at an ANC5C meeting a few months back, there was a presentation from a charter school group that’s looking to lease it from the city and put a high school in there. i don’t know if the plans have advanced since then (but if there’s activity there, then i guess they have). i hope to see it un-abandoned again, too! empty buildings are the worst possible thing in the neighborhood, i think…
I’ve seen people working on the building since early Spring – lots of guys in hazmat suits and big dumpsters early on. I believe that the building was purchased by the Community Academy Public Charter schools a few years ago. Apparently it will be a charter school for kindergarten through 8th grade. The work is going slowly, but at least its going!
